Travel Grants

ESOF2006 is an interdisciplinary non-profit event seeking to foster debate on science and society. It relies exclusively on its partners for the necessary means. ESOF2006 is therefore not in a position to provide funding for journalists or scientists. However, the following organisations are offering travel grants for scientists and journalists, who wish to participate at ESOF2006.

1. Young scientists from Central/Eastern Europe

Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft will generously support young researchers from Eastern and Central Europe wishing to attend ESOF2006. The Euroscience office will be in charge of organising the selection procedurePlease note that the selection procedure has been completed.

2. Young scientists from Sweden

The Torsten och Ragnar Söderbergs Stiftelsen has kindly committed funds to sponsor young scientists from Sweden who may wish to attend ESOF2006. Please click here for further information on application and selection critieria. Please note that the selection procedure has been completed.

3. Pairs of physicists from Germany and other European countries

The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Stiftung in association with the Deutsches Museum in Munich is kindly offering travel grants for pairs of young physicists, comprising of one scientist from Germany and one from a European country, under the age of 33. Main prerequisite is a previous or current scientific collaboration between the two scientists.

Applications must be sent via mail to:

They must include each applicant's cv, an overview of the scientific project the applicants are/have been working on as well as proof in form of a common publication (or a similar document). The amount is set at €1000 per pair and is intended for travel and accommodation costs. The Wilhelm and Else Heraeus-Stiftung is offering 20 such grants for a total of 40 physicists. It is solely responsible for evaluating the applications and will announce the results no later than May 31st, 2006. Please note that the selection procedure has been completed.

 

4. Robert Bosch Fellowships for American Science Journalists 

 

The Robert Bosch Stiftung will provide up to ten fellowships for American science journalists to participate in ESOF2006. The fellowship covers air travel (one return journey) between the United States and Germany and the hotel expenses during the conference.

5. Young scientists from Spain

 

The following Spanish organisations provided travel grants for young scientists:

 

a. Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC) kindly sponsors 10 travel grants for young scientists from Spain who wish to attend ESOF2006. 

b. Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología (FECYT) provides 10 travel grants.

c. Fundació Catalana per a la Recerca i la Innovació (FCRI) provides 10 grants.

d. Diputación General de Aragón is kindly contributing 4 travel grants.
