Abstract: Green chemistry is the design, development, and implementation of chemical products and processes to reduce or eliminate the use and generation of substances hazardous to human health and the environment. The symposium will discuss the practical implementation of green chemistry. Is this scientifically viable at this stage of research development? Are industry and its management capable of taking up the challenge, both from economical and attitudinal points of view? Are politicians and institutions ready to encourage and support forward-looking but financially risky initiatives? What is the relation between green chemistry and the EU regulatory framework for chemicals (REACH)?
